Estimating Policy

All quantities verbally or formally quoted represent a “GOOD FAITH” estimate, designed to provide the customer with a rough estimate of the amount of material needed for a given job. The estimate is based on calculations and/or data provided by the customer and assumes normal and typical construction techniques. The actual amount of material used by the customer may vary from this estimate due to various factors beyond our control. Therefore, no guarantee or warranty has been made that the actual quantities used will not vary from this estimate. The purchaser assumes sole responsibility for quantities of material ordered and shipped. All returns are subject to the Frederick Block, Brick & Stone return policy.

Rules of Thumb

Block

• 1.125 block per square foot of wall area
• 75% of the length of the wall gives the number of blocks per course
• Length X 0.75 = number of block per course
• Height X 1.5 = number of courses of block
• 40 block per bag of mortar

Brick

• 7 standard brick per square foot of wall area (allows for waste)
• 5.5 oversized brick per square foot of wall area
• 5 laid flat, solid brick per square foot for paving and hearths
• 4.625 courses of brick per foot of wall height
• 7 bags of mortar per 1000 brick (143 brick per bag of mortar)
• 1 ton of masonry sand per 1000 brick

Sand & Aggregate

• 110 pounds (approx.) of sand or aggregate per cubic foot
• 3000 pounds (approx.) of sand or aggregate per cubic yard
• 1 ton of masonry sand per 1000 brick
• 800 pounds of masonry sand per 100 block
  • 1 ton of masonry sand per 250 block
• 16 shovels of masonry sand per bag of mortar

Mortar

• 1 part mortar to 3 parts masonry sand
• 2.5 bags of mortar per 100 block
  • 1 bag of mortar per 40 block
• 7 bags of mortar per 1000 brick
  • 1 bag of mortar per 143 brick
• 16 shovels of masonry sand per bag of mortar

Misc.

• 1 wall tie per 10 brick (100 wall ties per 1000 brick)
• 1 anchor bolt every 4 feet
